Captain Scruffy and Gilligan are Back on the Blog!

We spent 2 weeks in Miami waiting for the weather window that would allow us to cross to the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.  While we were waiting we did fun stuff like visit Key Biscayne
and the Everglades National Park on JR's Birthday!!!

We rode our bikes to the observation tower and back - about 14 miles.  There were alligators EVERYWHERE, sometimes lying next to the bike path asleep in the sun.  It was freaky at first, but we got used to it

There are many exotic birds and turtles there too.  It's a beautiful and unusual place. Everyone should go!

On the 23rd we left early for the Berrys. It was an 11 hour day and smooth all the way.  We made 88 nautical miles the first day. We saw lots of Man-Of-War Jellyfish and Flying Fish, but no Dolphins :-(

We blew past Bimini and anchored overnight on the Mackie Shoals in the Bahama Banks.  It was beautiful and cool but a little rolly.

Tuesday we arrived at Great Harbor Cay, 133 nautical miles from Miami.  We rode our bikes around yesterday to get the big picture.  Our first impression of GHC is that it is the Bahamian version of Lopez Island - there is about 1 of most things, it is sparsely populated, there are many vacation homes, people wave when they see you, and there is hardly any traffic.

We visited 3 beaches yesterday and they are pretty spectacular!

We will have a beach day when the wind dies down a little bit.  Lots to explore here.
