Headed down the Dismal Swamp to Elizabeth NC today with other south bound cruisers. Although a short jump (about 25 miles), it was a long wait at the locks, and we were in a no wake zone for quite a while, so it ended up taking over 4.5 hours. Elizabeth has done their best to make cruisers welcome with free docks and a hosted wine and cheese reception.
The next jump is across Albemarle Sound which can be ugly in high winds. Winds are expected to be 20 knots from the NE tomorrow so it might be a sloppy ride. We are taking it easy tonight and getting ready for the next move.
Successfully installed charts and GPS to connect to my laptop so we can drive from below. It’s not as slick as an ipad but will have to do for now. The lower helm has no nav aids but it’s a lot warmer!
