GHC Marina

Our neighbors here are Rick and Sandra from Houston on the Stephanie Dawn, which is an Island Packet sailboat. They have 2 Siamese cats, Simon and Olive.  Olive likes to jump on our boat and visit.

Yesterday a fishing boat came by and JR bought lobster and conch.  He's making ceviche right now.

Our other neighbor for awhile was the Sophia Grace. They were from Kent, Washington (!) and they trailered this sailboat to Ft. Lauderdale.  They crossed the Bahama Banks the same day we did.

We might take a little dingy ride today out in the harbor.  Tonight there is a birthday party for a woman here who is turning 50.  There will be a  DJ! I'll try to take a photo of JR shaking his booty.

Captain Scruffy and Gilligan are Back on the Blog!

We spent 2 weeks in Miami waiting for the weather window that would allow us to cross to the Berry Islands in the Bahamas.  While we were waiting we did fun stuff like visit Key Biscayne
and the Everglades National Park on JR's Birthday!!!

We rode our bikes to the observation tower and back - about 14 miles.  There were alligators EVERYWHERE, sometimes lying next to the bike path asleep in the sun.  It was freaky at first, but we got used to it.

There are many exotic birds and turtles there too.  It's a beautiful and unusual place. Everyone should go!

On the 23rd we left early for the Berrys. It was an 11 hour day and smooth all the way.  We made 88 nautical miles the first day. We saw lots of Man-Of-War Jellyfish and Flying Fish, but no Dolphins :-(

We blew past Bimini and anchored overnight on the Mackie Shoals in the Bahama Banks.  It was beautiful and cool but a little rolly.

Tuesday we arrived at Great Harbor Cay, 133 nautical miles from Miami.  We rode our bikes around yesterday to get the big picture.  Our first impression of GHC is that it is the Bahamian version of Lopez Island - there is about 1 of most things, it is sparsely populated, there are many vacation homes, people wave when they see you, and there is hardly any traffic.

We visited 3 beaches yesterday and they are pretty spectacular!

We will have a beach day when the wind dies down a little bit.  Lots to explore here.

End of Summer

Final Post - End of Summer

It was a slow summer: Too much heat, too much rain and not enough time.
We only put 26.7 hours for the entire season and averaged about a day a month...
The culprits?
1. New house
2. Weather
3. Time because of 1 and an extra bit of traveling.
Hope next year things change big time!

... and now it's time to haul Glory out and do some needed bottom work.
Here are the pics of summer and the haul out
